History of Waysiders Drumpellier Rugby Club

Waysiders Drumpellier Rugby Football Club was formed in 1993, bringing together two established local clubs: Waysiders RFC of Airdrie and Drumpellier RFC of Coatbridge. The amalgamation created a new club playing from Langloan, Coatbridge, strengthening rugby across the local area and bringing together players, volunteers and supporters from both communities.

Since its formation, Waysiders Drumpellier has played an important role in grassroots rugby in North Lanarkshire. The club has served a wide local catchment area across Airdrie, Coatbridge and the surrounding communities, supporting senior rugby, youth rugby and community participation in the sport.

The club has also helped develop players who have gone on to represent the sport at a higher level. Former Waysiders Drumpellier players have included representatives at Scotland Women, Scotland A and Glasgow Warriors level, showing the strength of the club’s contribution to rugby beyond the local game.

Youth rugby has been an important part of the club’s identity, with the club linked to school and community rugby activity in Coatbridge. Waysiders Drumpellier coaches have supported local school rugby programmes, helping introduce young people to the game and build links between the club and the wider community.

Today, Waysiders Drumpellier RFC continues to provide rugby for players, families and supporters from across the area. As part of the wider Drumpellier sporting community, the club remains committed to developing rugby, supporting young players and maintaining a welcoming environment for members, visitors and the local community.
